A Nightmare on Elm Street, a classic horror movie from the 80s. Six sequels were to follow. A movie, which together with "Hellraiser", reanimated the declared dead genre and invigorated it. The director was Wes Craven, whose debut was "Last House On The Left" and who in 1996 with "Scream" resuscitated the genre again.
This movie is one of the rare exceptions where a movie in Germany runs longer than in the USA. In the USA the movie was censored in order to receive an R-rating - in Germany it was published in the Unrated version.
Addendum:
The newly published German DVD-Box by Warner unfortunately contains only the R-Rated version of the movie. Hence, the unrated version remains a rare exclusiveness of the old German FSK 18 tape.

Compared are the US-DVD (equivalent to the R-Rated version and identical to the German DVD of the "Nightmare On Elm Street"-Box by NewLine Cinema) with the uncut German Tape by CBS-Fox (rated FSK 18), which is equivalent to the unrated version.

Captivity

After shoting for "Captivity" was done and the movie was a pure suspense thriller, Lions Gate decided they wanted to participate in the success of the terror movies. To achieve that, the studio demanded some additional gore and terror scenes, which were shot afterwards. This version received an r-rating from the MPAA. It was decided to release the obligatory unrated version on DVD.

Director's Cut - Theatrical Cut
As a a manga/anime with fans all around the world it was only a matter of time until a live action adaption was produced. The plot was splitted on two movies. As the second movie started in the japanese cinemas, a director's cut of the first movie aired on TV. But other than usual this director's cut was cutted and shortened in many scenes and not longer.

The horror movie Hatchet, that is a reminiscence to the 80's slasher genre, earned mixed reviews. It was anything but the announced cult movie. In the USA, the uncensored version gained an NC-17 rating by the MPAA. In order to assure a successfull cinema run the studio censored the movie and this time they received the lucrative r-rating. Later on both versions, the censored r-rated and uncensored NC-17 version, were released on DVD.
